About The Event

Speaker: Anna Mudeka

Topic: Origins and background of her program Mama Afrika, which she is performing on Sept. 6 at the Arts Center.

Following the resounding success of the 2024 UK tour, Anna Mudeka returns to the stage as Mama Afrika sharing her interpretation of the life of Dr Miriam Makeba in a powerful one-woman, multi-faceted show. Anna tells the remarkable life story of singer, songwriter and civil rights activist Dr. Miriam Makeba, charting her rise from the townships of Johannesburg to global star, forced into exile for her stand against apartheid and marginalised for championing Black rights. Told in four character incarnations chronicling a life blighted by hardship, tragedy and struggle, Mama Afrika features many of Makeba’s best loved songs including Mbube, Pata Pata and Soweto Blues, embodying her irrepressible spirit and integrity and which earned her the legendary status of Mama Afrika.

Mama Afrika features a 90 minute solo performance…
