ACCEPTABLE ENTRIES:
Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (i.e. film/digital, unaltered or manipulated, alternative process, mixed media, montages, photograms, etc.), so long as the basis of the image is photographically created. Art must be original work of  the person who enters it. The Adirondack Lakes Arts Center for the Arts reserves the right to reject entries considered offensive or inappropriate for any reason.

ARTIST ELIGIBILITY:
Professional and amateur photographers, 18 years of age and over, and working in the USA may submit images for consideration.

ENTRY FEE:
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $30 USD for the first three images ($20 for Arts Center members). Additional images may be submitted for $10 each. There is no limit to the number of images that may be submitted.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Artist may send entries by email, the entry form may be downloaded online and payment may be made online, or mailed in.  Image files on the CD or sent by email must adhere to the following requirements:

For Mailing image files on CDs:

  • JPG format at high-quality (sRGB color space is preferred)
  • The longest side of the image must be sized to at least 1024, but no greater than 3000 pixels
  • Filenames consisting of the entrant’s name and entry number to match the entry form. For example, “JohnDoe_Entry1.jpg”, “JohnDoe_Entry2.jpg” and so on.

ACCEPTANCE AND AWARD PROCESS:
Images for exhibit will be chosen by the selection committee from the initial digital entries. Prizes will be awarded by the Jurors based on viewing of the framed display artwork.

FORMAT OF EXHIBIT ARTWORK:
Artwork must arrive at the Arts Center ready to hang, that i.e. with a wire or other sturdy device (No sawtooth hangers please). Artwork must be framed and matted- only white or off-white matting will be accepted. Plexiglass should be used instead of glass. (The Arts Center is not responsible for damaged glass.) Size of the finished piece must be greater than 12 inches, but less than 40 inches on the long side. Artworks intended to be displayed in an alternate manner (i.e. shadowbox, transparent, etc.) may be accepted with prior permission of the Arts Center.  The Arts Center reserves the right to reject artworks that appear to be significantly different than their entry files.

DELIVERY AND RETURN OF EXHIBIT ARTWORK:
Upon notification of acceptance of artwork, the artist must ship or hand deliver the accepted piece(s) to the Arts Center no sooner than 8/12/11 and no later than 8/19/11. Shipped work must be sent in a re-usable container, as this container will be used to return unsold work. Work must be securely packed, with identification tags attached to the back of the work and with the return shipping label enclosed. DO NOT USE STYROFOAM PEANUTS. Work will NOT be shipped back without a PREPAID SHIPPING LABEL. A street address must be used for return shipping, as UPS will not deliver to Post Office boxes. A prepaid shipping label must be enclosed with the received work. Work which arrives damaged or which does not meet the specified conditions for exhibition may be disqualified.

SALES:
All work must be for sale at prices set by the artist. The Arts Center retains a commission of 30% of sale price. Payment to the artist will be mailed within 30 days after receipt of proceeds from sales. The Arts Center reserves the right to reject any artwork deemed to be priced too high to be sellable. Artwork may not be withdrawn before the end of the show.

USE OF IMAGES:
All entrants agree that any image they submit to Diversity Through Many Lenses may be used for marketing and promotional purposes directly related to the exhibit This use may include, but is not limited to, publication in any printed materials, advertisements, electronic media, Internet, television, catalog, DVD, magazine, gallery shows, and the Arts Center website. Artist will be given visible credit where any image is used. Copyright and all other rights are retained by the artist.

INSURANCE
The artist will be responsible for delivery and pickup of all items to be displayed in the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts gallery, three days to one week before and after the dates of the show.  The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will provide insurance coverage on all items accepted upon arrival at the gallery.  Items will be insured at the full retail price set by the artist.  Insurance coverage begins when the work is received, up to but not exceeding one week prior to the first day of the show.  The Arts Center does not accept any liability for items during transit and will not insure the artwork after one week past the last day of the show.

JURORS
Barry Lobdell Is a photographer who lives in Saranac Lake, NY. He was the first recipient of the Barbara Johnson Parnass Art in Public Spaces Program Prize in Saranac Lake in 2003.  In the same year, he won the Best in Show/Purchase Prize in the North Country Regional Juried Art Show at the Gibson Gallery in Potsdam, NY.  In 2002, he won Second Prize in the “Adirondack Life” Juried Exhibition at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in Lake Placid, NY.  In 1997, he won Best in Show in the same competition.    His photography has also been seen in the New York Times, Boston Globe and Palm Beach Post.

Nancie  Battaglia lives in Lake Placid and has been documenting Adirondack lifestyle, scenes, themes, and sporting activities for over twenty-five years. Her stock and assignment photography has seen credit in innumerable editorial publications such as Sports Illustrated, Ski, Newsweek, Boys Life, Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Canadian Geographic Traveler, Adirondack Life, the New York Times, USA Today as well as in books, calendars, promotional material for I Love NY, the Adirondack region and many classic Adirondack lodges, schools, businesses and establishments. Her collection exceeds 100,000 images reflecting nature’s beauty, human energy, rustic charm, the spirit of place, life in the mountains, and the hardy folks that live there.

Lang Elliott is a well-known nature recordist and photographer, and is the author of numerous audio guides and books-with-CDs.  He earned his M.S. in Animal Behavior and Ecology from the University of Maryland in 1976. and has spent over a decade in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York teaching natural history,

Lang recently organized a world-class collection of bird song and call recordings. These recordings are featured on AudubonGuides.com, the Sibley Guide to Birds application for the iPhone and the new Smithsonian Field Guide to the Birds (Collins, 2008).
